The mobile technology company Fortumo is today announcing the launch of the mobile operator 3Denmark on its direct carrier billing platform. Fortumo’s merchants can now collect payments for games and digital content from more than 1 million subscribers of the telco by charging purchases to their postpaid phone bill.
“We look forward to offering our customers this opportunity to gather more online purchases in one place and get a good overview of it on their phone bill. Furthermore, carrier billing simplifies the checkout process, so all in all it matches our ambition to always offer transparency and user-friendly solutions to our customers,” said Jesper Larsen Wagner, VP Business Development & Operation at 3Denmark.
“Digital content consumption is increasingly taking place on mobile devices and carrier billing provides the best payment experience to consumers in this environment. We are making it easy for merchants to launch carrier billing across many fragmented mobile operators and look forward to growing our partnership with 3Denmark,” said Taavi Krusell, VP of Telco Partnerships at Fortumo.
Collecting carrier billing payments from 3Denmark subscribers is available to digital content merchants through Fortumo’s Unified SDK product. This approach makes it easy for merchants to launch carrier billing in a scalable manner: one integration to Fortumo enables payments with 3Denmark and hundreds of other mobile operators across the world.
In Denmark, 45% of people have a credit card while smartphone ownership is above 85%. The improved reach of carrier billing and the simpler checkout experience compared to credit card payments has resulted in carrier billing seeing widespread adoption for digital content payments. According to SuperData Research, 19% of all transactions for digital gaming content in Denmark are done using carrier billing. Additional data on carrier billing in Denmark and other countries of the region can be found from Fortumo’s Nordics market report.
In recent news from Europe, Fortumo has announced launching direct carrier billing with the mobile operator Three in Ireland and with the game developer Epic Games across multiple countries of the region.
