Engineering Unit Lead

Location: Estonia

6 days to Apply

Deadline: 6 Dec 2020

Fortumo's platform enables people to pay for digital content and services via their phone bill. This opens up the opportunity for our customers to collect payments from 4 billion people across the world without a credit card. Customers like Google, Spotify, and Amazon, among others.

We are a close-knit team that wants to grow and learn from each other constantly. Together, we are building platforms that serve a business-critical function for some of the world’s largest digital goods companies.

What is the purpose and content of this role?

The core purpose of the role is to be the day-to-day leader of Fortumo's Core and Infra teams. Setting realistic (yet challenging) targets for both teams and finding simple solutions for tough problems. Communicating with stakeholders and Product Owners to formulate technical requirements, organizing backlogs, and setting short-, mid- and long-term goals. Leading and coaching people in both teams is an important part of the role and cannot be undervalued. The core team is responsible for engineering and maintaining Fortumo's deep backend services, which process millions of requests a day. At the same time, the Infra team provides the underlying building blocks (mostly in AWS) to enable a modern, reliable, and resilient environment for our production services.

As an Engineering Unit Lead, you will be the owner of roadmaps and backlogs, and you will be actively planning work for both teams. To do so, you will work closely with engineering- and business stakeholders and translating business needs to technical requirements. You will coach and guide your teams to deliver quality solutions, and you will drive positive change on an organizational and process level by challenging the status quo. You will have a strong say in what, how, and why.
