What is the purpose and content of this role?

The fundamental purpose of this role is to help realize the visions and ideas of internal stakeholders (both business and engineering) and keep the existing infra stack up and running without hiccups. A Junior Engineer is expected to utilize possibilities to learn and embrace Fortumo's engineering culture, be willing to take on easier monthly projects, and show initiative in challenging the status quo in our infra, tools, and products.

The profile we're looking for is an enthusiastic engineer, who wants to specialize more in infrastructure and automation. The role will still include coding (both infrastructure-as-code, configuration management software, and product development) but will be more focused on tooling, automation, and general infra management. The role also involves responsibility for office IT maintenance and support - providing other employees with functional workstations, software and network infrastructure.

Knowledge and expertise that matters:

General understanding of IT infrastructure components: data centers, database and application servers, networks, storage solutions
Skilled with Linux and bash
Habit to keep security and potential risks in mind
Skilled in one programming language - preferably Python, Ruby, or Java
Interested in mastering different operating systems
Taking initiative, working independently and efficiently without close supervision
Strong problem-solving skills, ability to think systematically
Fluent in written and spoken English

It will be a plus if you have previous experience with:

Any experience with DevOps practices
Experience with workstation management in an office environment
Prior experience managing AWS infrastructure (EC2, VPC, RDS, S3, IAM). Alternatively, Google Cloud or Azure
