Leading Turkish gaming marketplace ByNoGame launches carrier billing with Fortumo

The gaming marketplace ByNoGame and the mobile payments company Fortumo are today announcing the launch of a carrier billing partnership. Gamers in more than 70 countries can now easily purchase content from ByNoGame by charging payments to their phone bill.

ByNoGame is a leading gaming marketplace in Turkey with global expansion targets and its platform allows users to buy and sell digital goods including individual games, CS: GO skins and in-game currency from game developers like Riot Games, WarGaming and GameForge. Thanks to the integration of Fortumo’s Web SDK, ByNoGame was able to roll out carrier billing globally with Fortumo managing the compliance and localization of the payment flows.

“ByNoGame aims to make it simple for all gamers to enjoy the games that they love. With carrier billing, we can now enable online payments for people who do not have a credit card or do not want to pay with it online. We are looking forward to working with Fortumo and growing our revenue,” said Murat Kömürcü, CEO of ByNoGame.

“Carrier billing has for a long time been one of the most popular payment methods for developers to sell virtual goods. Thanks to the continuously improving commercial and technical capabilities of mobile operators, carrier billing is now increasingly used to sell digital gaming content. We are very happy to be working with ByNoGame in providing users in Turkey and other markets with the simplest online payment method,” said Andrea Boetti, VP of Global Business Development at Fortumo.

In Turkey, only 32% of people own a credit card while smartphone penetration already stands 75%. This means a majority of people going online are unable to access premium content as they have no way of paying for it. Carrier billing solves this issue by allowing any phone owner to charge the payment to their monthly phone bill or deduct it from their prepaid card.

Simplicity and coverage of carrier billing have made it one of the leading payment methods in Turkey for digital gaming purchases, accounting for 13.6% of all transactions, according to SuperDataReasearch. Additional data on carrier billing in Turkey can be found from Fortumo’s MENA market report.

Fortumo’s direct carrier billing platform is used by Google Play, Spotify, Sony, HOOQ, Gaana, EA Mobile, Gameloft and thousands of other digital content providers. Fortumo’s platform can be used to collect payments from subscribers of more than 350 mobile operators through one integration.
